My banner, “The Art of the Machine”, was derived from the title of a paper delivered by Frank Lloyd Wright in 1901, titled “The Art and Craft of the Machine”. In this work, He prophesized that the evolution of the Machine Age would impact the future in two ways. First, he put forth the theory that the use of machines would impact the appearance of all future creations in every discipline. He continued this prediction, noting that machines would enable a broader demographic to acquire finely crafted items previously available only to the upper classes.
His second theory stated that many future works of art would reflect the appearance of the popular machines of the time.
An analysis of virtually all works created since the time of this paper will validate his predictions.
These concepts have been a cornerstone of inspiration for my work.
